Valentines Day Etsy Finds

Every young girl fantasizes about her first "romantic valentine"well,  I know I did. I always pictured roses, rose petals on the bed, in the tub lit by candles, roses arriving at my doorstep, roses galore. We'd walk somewhere beautiful as the sunsets, entering a home with a romantic dinner setting, engaging in some sort of adult conversation over the candlelight dinner we cooked ourselves (which was something sophisticated with wine to drink), then cuddling up with each other on a couch accompanied by a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a bowl of popcorn for the movie we rented to watch, but wouldn't finish.

It still sounds like a dream Valentine's day to me, but I think I have lowered my expectations a little bit since realizing that the standards movies hold Valentine's Day to are somewhat unrealistic to the lives of many. A lot of times work schedules don't always match up, it's flu season, people are forgetful or just don't put the effort into making it more than a "Hallmark Holiday" (not that I blame them, planning something that would meet a womans' expectation would take a lot of planning) ,but then what is this recent February 15th holiday men declared Steak & BJ Day?

With Alan, our first Valentines Day was spent a part. Alan was in bootcamp and I was back at home eating a bag full of peanut m&m's, sobbing while writing letters to send to him that week. Our second Valentines day, I was horribly sick with my pregnancy and he worked until midnight, he managed to surprise me with candy and some cute gifts. Last year we attempted a romantic dinner with a boob happy eight month old baby girl, you can subtract the romance out of that yourself. Although I haven't had the sappy Valentine's Day I always dreamed of having, each one with Alan has been special in its own way. I have learned that Valentine's Day isn't about having the perfect romantic night but simply just a day for celebrating love and having faith in love.

IPSY January 2015 Glam Bag Review : Fresh Start

Oh the glory of receiving a pink package in the mail, this is the first of 2015, and I am completely content with what IPSY sent  to me.

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder -  I love 100 percent mineral anything, so I was very pleased when I found out this was a mineral eyeshadow made with Mica powder. Mine came in the shade Whesek which works perfect for a sultry look. $14.99 .

Elizabeth Mott All Over Eyeshadow Brush -  Let me start by saying this brush is totally cute, most of my brushes are black or the typical silver, but this has got me thinking I need to add some color to my brush collection. It's a typical eyeshadow brush for the most part, but one thing did especially like about this brush is that it somehow held on to the eyeshadow better, so when I applied it there wasn't much residue on other parts of my face surrounding my eyes. $9.99 .

Jouer Lip Enhancer - I have heard so many great reviews on this product, but I never got around to buying it myself, so when I opened my Glam Bag it was the first thing I grabbed. It literally went from the Ipsy bag, to my lips, to my purse; I love it that much. It gives the appearance of a fuller lip while decreasing the appearance of fine lines, this product is just perfect I am definitely keeping it around. The .33 fl oz is $16.00, I recieved it in .15 fl oz so I am just going to roughly estimate it to costing $8.00 .

La Fresh Be Good. Good Day. Day Moisturizer-  I am super picky about what I put on my face, but after trying this I am actually debating on whether or not  to buy this. I wasn't to fond of the smell, so I think that is holding me back a little bit, I did love the results, it didn't leave my face feeling oily, it kept my face moisturized the entire day I spent outside shopping and it felt fresh minutes after applying to my face and neck. This is a brand I have never heard of before, but after visiting their website, they have me extremely intrigued with their products. The sample of this product costs $13.99

Pacifica Natural Mineral Eyeshadow-  The last time Ipsy sent me a product from Pacifica, it was their eyeliner, which I had an allergic reaction to, but since it was a new product, I thought I would give it a go.  I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't think it was going to turn out well, but I really love the Coconut shade it has great pigment and lasts all day. I liked it so much that I have actually been wearing it as a daily shadow this entire week. Yay for new finds! The only thing negative about these eyeshadows is that they aren't sold separately, which totally blows! I want to say (don't quote me on this) one of these would be estimated to cost around $6.00 each if  they were sold separately.

Based on my own researched of the products received by Ipsy the January Glam Bag I received came to a grand estimated total of  $52.97, not including tax or price of makeup bag. I only paid $10.00 and received all of these goodies plus an insiders treat to discounted name brand beauty products. First Haul of 2015

One of my resolutions for the new year is to take time for myself to do things for myself. For the last three years I have been extremely attentive to my baby and my husband (as it should be), but I also haven't made enough time to do things for myself. I can count on one hand how many times I have painted my nails over the past three years, and that's just nuts. So, this time around I am going to make a conscious effort to put aside some greatly needed "Lauren Time" starting with this haul.

Some of the items I bought I couldn't find online so here are the ones that I did find

Forever 21

Lush

At Home Bikini Waxing

I love winter for three reasons; holidays, food, and less shaving. Now that Valentines Day is right around the corner, us ladies can no longer get away with not shaving (insert sad face here). We got our legs covered, our arm pits covered, but what about the other area? Like so many other women across the world shaving your bikini area is usually the go-to answer to grooming your 'down there' area. I used to shave for the longest time, until I started to dabble in the beautiful art of brazilian waxing. I started waxing just because shaving is super annoying to me, razor bumps aren't the prettiest and because my hair is so dark that even if the surface is smooth, you can still see little dots of the hair below. When I first began waxing I went to a professional, after a couple times I started waxing at home; which came with trial and error, I cringe just thinking about it.

Getting a brazilian wax job done can cost anywhere from$45.00 to $100 (don't you dare forget to tip) with results lasting anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on your hair growth. Needless to say, waxing can become a tad pricy, which is one of the reasons I decided to start doing it myself. However, if there is a special occasion that I am attending, I still  have it done professionally, because lets face it, when it comes to waxing all of that, professionals do it the best. I am by no means an esthetician, but I have learned a few things along the way that I hope will help you out. Before I go on , the most important thing is; do NOT attempt waxing by yourself if you have never been waxed or have no idea what you are doing. I suggest going to a esthetician at least 4-6 times before you even give at home waxing a try. This is not a DIY fail you want to deal with.

Accessories I use: Wax, handheld mirror, baby powder, tweezers, waxing sticks with an edge, baby oil and an old towel.

For those of you brave enough to venture into the dark shadows of DIY bikini waxing here are my
tips and lessons learned.

  1. Buy a good wax. Try to avoid drugstore products. I opt for GiGi or Bliss products
  2. Clean/exfoliate the area your waxing and pat dry.
  3. Don't just assume you know about the wax you're using. There are a variety of waxes be sure to read the label for proper instructions.
  4. Lay something down to protect your floor.
  5. Take an IBU or Aspirin 45 mins prior to waxing, this will help with swelling and pain.
  6. Pat baby powder over the area being waxed (do this throughout waxing) it helps keep the area dry.
  7. The top part of your pubic bone hurts the worst, you barely feel anything when waxing your labiums.
  8. Always apply wax in the direction of hair growth.
  9. When removing wax pull skin taut and quickly pull in the opposite direction of hair growth.
  10. I can't stress this enough, DON'T hesitate when ripping the wax off and remember to stay close to your skin.
  11. Pressing down on the area you just waxed will help soothe the pain.
  12. Use tweezers to remove leftover hairs that just refuse to come out.
  13. Rinse off in the shower and use baby oil to help get rid of the wax residue.
  14. Whatever you do, DON'T shave between waxes

Once you wax, you'll never look at shaving the same way ever again. I hope this post made you giggle a little and helped you decide whether or not you want to give waxing a go, rather doing it yourself or having a professional do it for you.

Your's Truly,
Lauren

Lazy Sunday Face Routine

I hope you all are enjoying your Sunday, I know I am. I don't know how many of you can relate to me, but once Sunday is here I am absolutely exhausted. I always have the need to stay in my pjs, watch movies, and just be an all around lazy bum. I hate that sluggish feeling I get if I sleep in or lay around too much, it really gets me in a bad mood, and we all know how hard it can be to kick those to the curb. This Sunday I was determined to stay away from what I like to call the Sunday blues. I felt the bad mood climbing out of its cave ,so I quickly got my butt in the shower and did something about it. Showering is a great way to not only freshen up your body but also a quick way to refreshen your mindset. After my shower I threw on some more fashionable loungewear as opposed to my braless, baggy shirt and sweat pants; then went to my beauty box and grabbed a few products that make for a quick, and simple freshened look. If you ever find yourself feeling sluggish and grumpy on your Sunday, try to take a shower and freshen up your look a bit there's a lot of truth behind the saying "Look good, feel better" .
